Alpine Sports Medicine
Having an injury in a remote alpine area can be a daunting experience. Away from home and loved ones and distant to large emergency triaging centres. Australian Rural Medical Services (AusRMS) has filled this space for over 30 years in Perisher Valley, the largest ski area in the southern hemisphere.
Australian Rural Medical Services (AusRMS) sites are all equipped to manage these injuries to emergency department standards. This includes ultrasound and a fully registered digital X-ray suite, a network of physiotherapists and specialists on the ready for ongoing care or immediate transfer if required.
Training
Many alpine sports injuries are seldom seen elsewhere. As such Alpine Sports Medicine is now recognised as a specialty field. Australian Rural Medical Services (AusRMS) has accreditation to train medical students, Registrars and GP professional development to ensure that alpine sports patrons can access specialised care.
Our focus on alpine medicine and comprehensive training helps prepare clinicians to serve in snow medical centres and ski resort health settings, including coordination with alpine rescue and alpine emergency teams.
